Why should Dell preinstall Firefox?

Posted by Johnny K on Fri, 08/17/2007 - 20:41Firefox Marketing Ideas

For those of you who don't already know, Dell is currently considering preinstalling Firefox on its Windows machines. According to this topic's Ideastorm page (Ideastorm is Dell's way of allowing customers to tell Dell what they want), the current status of this idea is "Under Review".

As you can imagine, having Firefox preinstalled on Dell computers would be a huge step for Firefox and would greatly accelerate Firefox's adoption.

Since Ideastorm's launch, Dell has done a great job of listening to what people have had to say about the ideas posted. Now it's time for you to voice your opinion. Use the comment section of this Spread Firefox topic to tell Dell why you think they should preinstall Firefox.

I'm asking every active Spread Firefox member to participate in this. After all, who knows Firefox better than Spread Firefox members? Any response will help, be it one line or a short essay. Once the comment section starts to grow, I will send Dell a link to this page.

This could be our chance to finally convince Dell that preinstalling Firefox would be the right move. Let your voices be heard!

Internet Cafes as a marketing marvel.

Posted by Aztec13 on Sun, 07/01/2007 - 06:39Firefox Marketing Ideas

I live in Tijuana,MX. Like every other city in this country as I'm sure many others are Internet Cafes on just about every corner. Awhile back I didn't have a job (Aside from a fledgling website), and my computer's internet access had been canceled. I decided a good idea to kill 2 bird's w/ 1 stone would be to look for a job in a internet cafe.

As a leverage tactic I would tell whom ever was in charge that I was a member of "Spread  Firefox"(with authority !). I said I could maybe set up some posters and promotional items if they hired me(it was posted at the time) and that I personally could set them up with a revolutionary set up that all their customers would go crazy for. Utilizing Firefox's Extensions. How each different user could store online at "Foxmarks" and a long list of some other great options I could make available if I were given control over their cafe.

Well needless to say pretty much all of them thought it was a good idea. It's free whats not to like? Not one cafe did I leave w/o personally coaching them through downloading Firefox before leaving. And before not too long someone liked me and my ideas that I actually scored a job. It would be nice to get some promotional stuff really. Since I have taken over the cafe the Firefox use has definitely gone up. I erased that other one completely. And we are no longer running pirate XP for our OS. I installed UBUNTU and nobody has even noticed. I did tweak it to look like XP though.

Anyways before I go way left field, I think this technique I employ at the cafe in conjunction with some promotional added flash would be the nail in the coffin to really drive it home. We need to get Firefox into these Inet cafes somehow. Eventually our customers take Firefox back their own computers,or better yet into the workplace. We should really place some thought into this on a much bigger then "me" arena. I can only do so much myself.

I don't know if this idea was here because i'm new in this page.
The idea is simple

Add to your nick

[Your nick] Firefox User.
 and in the subnick

Firefox User. If you are too, add it to your nick.

example:

-------------------------------------------------------

Iron™ - Firefox User.

Firefox User. If you are, add it to your nick.

 ------------------------------------------------------

what you think?
PD: Firefox was the best i ever had in my computer. Im so stupid , i have been using IE for years, and i didn't realize how good firefox WAS, IS, AND WILL BE

As "Get back the Web", those little sentences help to fix ideas.

* Because the web has much more!

* Get more from the Web!

* The future is Firefox.

You can suggest or change those mottos... I believe in the power of those sentences allied to the Firefox logo.

Firefox+

Posted by Xbehave on Fri, 11/30/2007 - 16:19Firefox Marketing Ideas

the easiest way to improve firefox would be to pre-pack it with features so that new users go WOW!

i realise that vanilla firefox should still be available but if Mozilla offered a firefox+ with a few extensions then more users would go wow!

for example packing
fission (usability wow)
compact menu2(usability wow)
colorfull tabs(looking good wow)
cutemenus(looking good wow)
RAMback(stop people moaning)

submit to tab(fix a problem)

firefox3 was good but id never use the default setup over konqueror i only use it because i can setup the perfect setup with firefox, by keeping things out of the core firefox will stay fast and customisable but by shiping with extentions new users will go wow, and are more likely to realise the potential of firefox

Firefox new feature request

Firefox should have capability to add a static URL to (bookmark) an online web application (service eg. digg, reddit, twitter, etc) and let the user submit to any of these selected services the current URL in the address bar at any time while user browses the internet.

It would enable to simply submit the URL to sites such as Clesto, Digg, Reddit, Furl, Del.icio.us, Spurl even if those don't have icons shown to these sites.

By online service I meant one of http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php?v=12&winname=addthis&pub=pkenjora&s=&url=http%253A%252F%252Fblog.awarelabs.com%252F%253Fp%253D9&title=Digg%2BTechnorati%2BDelicious%2BBlink%2BList%2BFurl%2BReddit%2BBlog%2BSubmission%2BTag

Simply to 'bookmark & share'.

 Thanks, szezo
