Getting Approval

Greetings

In June, I took over The Extensions Mirror (TEM). It is now called Add-ons Mirror (AMI) and has a different domain.

There have been many changes, and many more are on the way. One of them is getting approval from the proper parties for their logos. Ken Saunders referred me to the the Mozilla Trademark Policy, and I believe everything is in compliance on the main homepage, the forum, the portal, and the wiki.

On the portal, some blocks (widgets) include links to my disclaimers. The Navigation block (top left) contains a link to the Rules & Disclaimers forum area. They contain the required information for logos, trademarks, and appropriate credits.

At the top of the forum index is another link to the Rules & Disclaimers area. Anyone who visits should easily be able to find this important information.

There is also a wiki, but I am not sure whether or not the wiki is going to work out because of security issues. The Disclaimer link in there has the appropriate information.

Making money or spreading Firefox?

what do you think of this get-browsers-dot-com?

- Are they just making money with this?
- Are they spreading Firefox?
- Is it even allowed?

I know this is not a very project driven post, but if this is a Spreading Firefox approach why do they not link from Mozilla.com?

Hi all, i would like to know whether i could use the Firefox logo for creating a t-shirt for my personal use.

The t-shirt maker company (spreadshirt.net) requests an explicit and written authorization to create the t-shirt to avoid legal problems and/or endorsements.

Hello all , I tryed to contact by email to few adresses but only i got auto messages or just no replys

I'm near to start a new advertising site and as a Firefox user i wish to start with a firefox ad for a week (free) but i need a weird banner dimension (about 600x380) and i'm not able to find one of that res or atleast near res, and also i don't know if i can edit it to adapt to the exact resolution.

Anyway , is there any staff guy, admin or whoever that can take a look our site , see what i mean and also give us the "aceptation" ?

Dear Firefox team,

I am an open source advocate. I am very much in love with open

source concept. Open source gives a meaning to the word

freedom what sleep is to the word rest.

I strongly believe that quality costs money and I know for

sure that almost every one wants to pay for quality. But if

quality can be given cheap, I would prefer that, since it will

only make an average person's life easier.

I have been using firefox for the past three years and I love

it. I want it to be on every desktop. In every school and on

every tablet. I want people to know that its possible to do a

good deed without being selfish. That its possible to give

something for free and still make some money.

That good and love can achieve certain big things in life.

And that, little is more.

I don't agree but I do respect your right of copyrighting your

logo.

I believe that copyrighting the name 'Firefox' is enough to

make open source a household name and something that can be

assciated with quality.

Its your property and you can do what ever you want with it.

And I also see the act of copyrighting YOUR logo as something

very, very and imensely very small compared to what firefox is

already doing for open source.

And here I would like to thank you and congratulate you for

your efforts and your love for open source.

As a advocate of all those things that would make an average

man's life easier, with a lot of respect and love, I would

like to make a request.

Please try to help the Debian community. They need you. We

need you. The world needs Open source and freedom. Among this

community there are very nice and faithful followers of open

source and they can contribute alot to firefox's fame by

improving it and by distributing it.

I am not a Debian user but I am like them. A linux user. Linux

that started the revolution we now know as Open Source. It

needs you.

I know now that its not possible for you to free your logo. I

would prefer that but its your decision and I respect that.

So I think that it would be appropiate to create another logo

that is under copyleft. A logo that is very slightly different

from the original logo. I want every one to use Firefox and

love its fox around the gloge logo.

Distribute with extensions?

Does the license allow for free distribution with minor modifications like extensions added to the default profile? I'm not talking about editing any source code or even downloading the source code. I'm just talking about preinstalled extensions downloaded from the Mozilla website with minor settings changes (i.e. adding sites to the list in IETab that will automatically render with IE).

I do a lot of consulting work for companies that would like such a thing for distribution across their networks. I've been making them on a per-request basis, but would like to make one with the most common extensions available for all of my customers. I figure I'm helping to promote Firefox because the biggest gripes my customers have with it will be already fixed this way. Without these modifications I would have literally thousands of fewer installations of Firefox (many of these customers INSIST on IETab functionality especially and won't install it themselves).

The method I've been using is to download the redistributable EXE from Mozilla, extracting the files with 7-Zip, then adding the extensions folder and localstore.rd, and finally recompiling the whole thing with 7-Zip, and the header files (7zSD.sfx and app.tag) from Mozilla's website.

Just checking if it's legit.

Can I modify the fox from the logo to make a desktop background?

I downloaded hi-res image of the fox from links given in here:

Then I removed the globe, twisted the fox, duplicated the result and added background and other things to the image. The result looks nothing like the logo, but anyone would instantly identify that the foxes in the image are from the Firefox logo. The idea was to make a new desktop background image, but after reading the faq. I'm not sure if I can do this.

I don't dare to publish the result if it offends anyone or if it is against the law or the will of MoFo. But if it is possible to publish it, I don't really care under what license it is released (if it helps).

FireFox logo on Wikipedia user pages

I know this has come up before but, on Wikipedia, all our content has to be released into the GDFL (or lesser lisense), otherwise it cannot be included. There are certain instances <i>in articles</i> (like the one about Mozilla FireFox) where we can claim fair use on certain images under United States copyright law (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Fair_use for details)

Now, my dilemna is that, as the Firefox logo is fully copyrighted, we cannot display it on userpages, hereby, we are not able to fully advertise your wonderful browser there. This is a problem for myself and other users.

Is there a possibility that you could release at least a version of the logo under a free liscense (GDFL, public domain, Creatve Commons ...etc...) so that we can advertise properly on our userpages?

Possibly been brought up before somewhere before, but I came across www.firefox.co.uk and to my surprise, its not Mozilla Firefox, here's the profile of the company, FIREFOX:

1. Is this a problem in any way?
2. Was this where Mozilla got the idea?

I work for an ISP and we would very much love to ship Firefox out with our setup CD. (We have been recommending it to our customers.) I've tried to look around to make sure this is kosher but haven't really found an answer.
