IEAK for FireFox?

Posted by TrainsOnline on Sun, 09/19/2004 - 00:42Licensing Issues

Is there a development kit available like the IEAK from Microsoft?

It would be great to be able to design a custom FireFox for download from my website that come with links etc. already coded in, and custom animations.

...or have I just missed it somewhere...???

XULRunner might be what you want. Check out http://wiki.mozilla.org/XUL:Xul_Runner

I too am also interested in a FF version of Microsoft IEAK (Internet Explorer Administration Kit - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ieak/) but for large scale use on a on ISP sign-up CD (similar to AOL's), but with the ability to have a install with [atleast] the following customised options:
- homepage
- bookmarks
- theme (skin)
- search
- User-agent string (ability to add to it)

The installer would also need to do a "server-side" signup for dial-up (they still exist) users. This would involve:
- checking/installing Dial-up Networking (DUN)
- checking/installing a modem
- install a browser and (optional) mail client (Thunderbird???)
- dialing a signup sever
- kiosk mode browser to the servers signup process
- download a file (xml???) on competion [without security warning] and use file to set up mail app and DUN with an account.

If there was a package that did this I know of a very large telco that would switch a massive user-base to Firefox.

(sorry for duplicate posting of this comment but I see a real need for this - would be glad to assist development)

You could start by making your own Theme...

This is a great idea. I can think of dozens of applications for this.

If you could "preinstall" pertinent extensions etc, that would be fabulous.

We have a similar requirement. IE was installed on 500 desktops with centralised control of security settings and some bookmarks. We would have to have something similar to adopt FF . Perhaps someone could help Mark Sailes who seems to have got some way towards (the beginning of) a solution?
