Fahrenheit 1 Million: The temp at which the web explodes

Posted by sfxteam on Sat, 09/18/2004 - 19:47Spreading Firefox

SFX TeamIn just under 100 hours, we have smashed through our one million download campaign--with 6 days still to go! This is the fastest adoption rate we have ever experienced, higher than every previous Firefox release. But it's not time to relax our efforts. How soon can we break through 2 million? We'll have more information on a new campaign on Monday.

In the mean time, let us—and the world— know what you think of Firefox Preview Release. Drop us a review at c|net, BetaNews (win mac linux) or ZDNet. We'll incorporate the feedback as we drive to 1.0.

One last thing: remember to sign up for the sfx newsletter and be the first one to hear when we smash through our goals. People who receive the newsletter will also receive special sneak previews of future sfx campaigns.

Ok, I am kinda feeling a little bit hurt here, I get told I'm the one millionth user by a pop up screen, and that was it? Whats with that? Maybe it's just me, my first time being the million marker, but not even an email!
If the event was worth keeping track of, and promoting, then #1000,000 should carry a little more weight than a mere pop up, wouldn't you think?
Anyway, enough venting, the browser is way I am here and it works for me, great job there guys and gals!
The future looks bright for the Moz team and their efforts are appreciated, so Thank You.

Actually I was using Windows Explorer with Windows XP Pro as the operating system. The two don't seem to be compatable because I've had a string of errors, lost files, freeze ups.....etc. so while reading through various different chat forums around the web I came across someone singing praises for Mozilla. I checked it out and everything looked ok, so I downloaded and have since been very glad that I did.
Cheers!

Even since the beta's, Firefox has been the best browser I have ever used. Malicious programs don't miraculously install themselves like with MicroS**t Internet Exploiter, and pages actually look right in Firefox unlike some other competitor's browsers.

There are two kinds of people who browse the web: Those with Firefox, and computer illiterate people who just got their OEM computers pre-installed with the default junk who have yet to learn why Firefox is better and safer.

Keep up the good work, Firefox will be my browser of choice until something successfully replaces the WWW.

Frefox 1.0PR is great, I'm a n00b to the Firefox scene, only been using it since 0.7. I originally used it as a secondary browser behind Opera as a dfesigner, but it rocks. When I was on a 56k connection it was great. Awesome guys, keep it up. 10million downloads?

East shit IE.

Submitted by Persisto77 on Sun, 09/26/2004 - 15:53.

Very good, and great that it is open source.
I really like the Bookmark management, which is a kludge anywhere else.
But I've been using Opera, and will probably continue to do so for a while:
- I can not find a zoom in FF
- I like the New Tab, Fast Forward and Rewind buttons in Opera.
- Opera is strictly tab, no new windows open outside the main prog window.
- You can re-arrange the tabs in Opera.

I am waiting for the tabbed browser with tabs BELOW the window, like Excel!

Keep up the good work!

Well done. It's now a proven fact - lots of 'net savvy individuals are downloading Firefox.

Next step, the really important stuff - make use of the requirement imposed on Microsoft to allow other browsers to be installed on new machines.

For Firefox to truly break through, you need 50% of Windows PCs this December to have the Firefox logo on the desktop instead of IE.

Get talking to the OEMs!

I knew a long time ago that I hated IE. I have been using Opera for years now. Many congrats to your team getting the word out about Foxfire. I had to try it. Now while Opera is faster than IE, Foxfire is as much faster than Opera as Opera is than IE. I am on a dial up connection and my eyes just about popped out of my head at how fast pages load with Foxfire. I kept wondering when someone sneeked a cable connection in here. :-) Even downloading from the internet is faster. I still can't believe it. I'm sold. I can't wait until the full 1.0 version comes out. I am telling all my friends. Keep up the good work.

Lots of congratz to the Mozilla Firefox team for making Firefox the best browser in the world, and as well of course thanks to everyone who downloaded firefox! I never expected it to reach one million downloads so soon, but there's lots of talk about Firefox all over the net, including on lots of non-tech related websites. I've used Firefox since Phoenix .1 in Oct '02, it's gotten alot better since then, and it will continue to get better, right now Firefox 1.0 beta is PERFECT in my opinion, have yet to run into bugs. Keep up the awesome work guys and gals!

I've been using Firefox since version 0.8, which isn't very long ago, but I've been a loyal user since. What attracts me most is the standards-compliance, something that IE definately doesn't have. The extra features are also a plus. Tabbed browsing makes things so much easier.

I'm glad that more and more people are starting to realize the benefits of using Firefox.

Well done for 1 million download in under 100 hrs.. I just remember before I started to use Phoneix at that time, I was using Opera, and still didn't make Opera as my default browser, and also, I never make any IE alternative broswer as default, but whn I first downloaded 0.4, and after used for the first time, I straight make Phoneix as my default browser without thinking much.

Well done and congrats again and hopefully Firefox will take over IE in 1 day.. ^^

Mathematically, speaking, there are two ways Firefox is growing:

1: Exponential Growth: Since the approval rating of Firefox is higher than my Physics mark, the more people who use it, the more will tell their friends about it

2: Logarithmic Growth: After a while, people will spread it less and less, because: a) they get bored with the campaign, or b) they've told everyone they know. But it is still a positive grown, just a reduced acceleration that is approaching 0.

Or, it will grow exponentially, until it reaches its market saturation point for its audience. The first part is what we are doing now. Awareness is our biggest problem. Once we become aware in people's minds, then we'll just have to convince them that we are better.

FireFox has to overcome Internet Explorer domination, otherwise the web will continue to be an unsafe place with lots of virus and spy-ware. For web designers, Internet Explorer is a pain, IE doesn't have a clue what CSS 2.0 or RSS 2.0 are.

The Web doesn't evolve more due to this dominion, that can cease by a strong presence of a robust yet sleek browser like FireFox.
