Firefox truly the fastest Web Browser

Posted by yeaitsjim on Tue, 12/07/2004 - 14:42Your Firefox Switch Stories

One thing I would have to say about Firefox is not only its relability but also its speed. I think the greatest thing for those that PAY a lot of money to thier ISP each month, is that they would like to see are RESULTS, I'm personally a big fan of speed, for an average of $50 bucks a month through Comcast I want to know how fast everything is going. Speed testing through "Internet Explorer",(I use quotes because I feel its kinda ridiculous that they call it that, as if it were the only "TRUE" browser), was depressing, I thought that something somewhere was not configured properly, after exhausting every possiblity I decided to try some different browsers.

After having used Firefox for about 5 mins, going to www.dslreports.com, and speed testing - would you know...my reported speeed was almost TWICE it was in IE! I could'nt believe it, the problem wasn't my ISP, it was my WEB BROWSER!

There are so many 20 dollar programs that are SUPPOSED to increase speed, but all they do is lower it, and they claim ...umm yea your PC is probably the problem, or check with your ISP.

My point being, I think that a big part of what the average consumer is looking for in reguards to their web experience is SPEED, that's why Broadband is a NEW thing, just think if they all KNEW that:
FIREFOX + BROADBAND = ACTUAL RESULTS!

That is what I tell everyone, on TOP of that built in adware/spyware protection, its really just the best browser, hands down.

The only issue is getting to the average person that doesn't even THINK to CHANGE his/her browser, let alone knows what a "browser" is, they just know to click on the "E" with the ring around it, and that brings them to the "internet".

All its takes is telling people to try it, Firefox sells itself the second you use it, you can never go back.

So in short....thanks to all those that had a hand in the development, you've made Microsoft's IE look like a joke.

How do you do the speed testing... I want to do it too, but I don't know how. I went onto dslreports.com, but I can't find the speedcheck.

EDIT: Never mind. I found the speedtest, but for some reason it's not loading. I have the java installed, but what's wrong...

Some people are disagreeing with this, that Firefox is the fastest browser. Whether it is or not, I love it. No reason to comment on the fact that it isn't the fastest browser, because yeaitsjim still likes it anyway. And so do I!

Firefox may not be the faster web browser but it's a webrowser worth keeping. And with help, Firefox can make your computing and web experiance better than ever.

Right now I use:

Adblock Plus: Info&DL
w/ Adblock Filterset.G Updator: Info&DL
NoScript: Info&DL
And with the anti-spyware I already have on my computer, including Spyware Blaster & Spyware Guard, Ad-Aware, and Spybot S&D.(all anti-spyware programs I just listed are freeware). I have not had a single spyware problem in years. That's what I call immunity, and I am serious, I think my computer is almost Immune to spyware. Thanks to everthing I listed above, as long as I don't install a program that contains spyware I will be fine. Always read the legal stuff before installing any program onto your computer, like the Terms and Conditions. If your installing something and you read the terms, if you see anything about third party software read it carefully. Sorry I went off topic, but tips like that are good and rare. It's a blessing to the newbies.
(if intrested in some of those great anti-spyware programs I listed above, Google them)

Also with Fasterfox: Info&DL
Firefox has never been faster for me. So if you want a fast Firefox get Fasterfox.
I just learned about GoogleWebAccelorator too, so I will now use that as well to make browsing even faster for me.

Of course with Tab Mix Plus: Info&DL
My Tabbed browsing is enhanced and better than ever. Tab Mix Plus betters Firefox's tabbed browsing capabilities.

With FlashGot: Info&DL
My downloading has been at the easiest for me, ever since I got FlashGot. One time I downloaded a whole page of skins for my favorite game in a single click.

Firefox is a wonderful browser with the best of extensions. Right now I browse at the safest with everything at ease to me. Go look for other Firefox extensions I use here, they are all excelent and very, very helpful. Look for(I also use) FoxyTunes(I use with my favorite media player jetAudio, that I rate #1, Google it), Image Zoom, IE Tab, Dictionary Tooltip, Forecastfox, gTranslate, and InFormEnter Firefox extensions. I have several others but I named my best ones that make things easier for me and more fun. Speaking of fun there is this real fun extension called Pong! I love it, don't be fooled by Ping Pong, you want PONG! Multiplayer. You can play vs the computer, a friend or online.

Anyway I hope my comment helped some people, even though it was a tad off topic. Firefox is great as long as he has his buddies to back him up. If any browser has buddies it's Firefox.

Firefox isn't the fastest browser. Any terminal browser on Linux (lynx, links, elinks) has Firefox (or any windowed browser) beat to a pulp. I read several website with speed tests and Opera came out on top for most categories. Don't get me wrong but Firefox isn't the fastest or most stable browser in the world.

I agree, it's not the fastest browser. Being fast or not isn't the reason I switched from Internet Explorer, MSN Explorer, etc., I switched because of the amazing amount of functionality Firefox has over all other browsers. That's the distinguishing factor.

I hope this isn't too far off topic, but my favorite point here is,

The only issue is getting to the average person that doesn't even THINK
to CHANGE his/her browser, let alone knows what a "browser" is, they
just know to click on the "e" with the ring around it, and that brings
them to the "Internet".

That seems to be the truth of it, and where the majority of Firefox community marketing needs to go. We need to tell the world, there's more to the Web than the Blue E. Go beyond the ordinary; get Firefox!

Of course, there are plenty who will be unsure about this, and we'll need to convey to them how much better the open source community does at rapidly maintaining an up-to-date, reliable browser, compared to Microsoft's clumsy management of their proprietary program.

Fasterfox and Google Web Accelerator, they have Opera beat

Opera is often faster than Firefox for most tests/environments.

Firefox is factually safer than IE.

Firefox 1.5 is factually faster then IE in most tests/environments.

Personally, I like Firefox because of it's features, that's really about it.

I don't believe it's any more secure than other browsers, and I can say from using it that it's not faster at rendering pages.  It also seems to take forever to load cold.

I do want to point out that DSLreports speed test tests connection speed.  That's it, and this can vary greatly based on time of day, how many tests are being run and even the server used for testing, even minute to minute on the same server you can get very different results.

The rendering speed of the browser doesn't come into play at all.  The speed test is done with Java, and as long as both browsers are using the same Java plugins installed on your system, all thing being equal, you'll get the same results since it matters none what browser it's being run under.

Again, I do use Firefox for it's feature set and clean interface, but claiming it's fastest?  No, I just don't see it.

If you really want the fastest browser try Opera, it's been rated as the fastest at rendering pages over all others.  I'll try to find the link and post it later to the indipendant tests that show this.

firefox isn't the fastest... i've used links-hacked in graphical mode (on windows 2000) and it runs much faster... i usually use firefox, tho, because i can't stand browsing without adblock.
