Dear friends, as u all know, indiatimes is the largest website group in India. And especially the mail (mail.indiatimes.com) has not get full support from Firefox. (for example: using Firefox you can not switch to rich version).

Kindly, make Firefox add that support!

The Hindi Firefox is a revolution waiting to happen in India. This is because the country as such is IT savvy and there is a great depth of IT talent here - also cybercafes at every corner.

One way to approach this is to approach NGOs (Non-governmental Organizations) on the one hand to convert their material to Hindi - and Internet cafes on the other hand to install Hindi language browsers prominently at their cafes.

We can have a single Hindi page like ahaah.in (I just made this up) which serves as a portal to other Hindi language sites of interest. This will help solve the temporary problem that the domain names in the top bar are not internationalized. One other way to do it is to use numerical IP addresses for domain names.

I'm meeting an NGO owner today to discuss these ideas and will post back with the results.

Obviously anything I say about Hindi is valid for the other Indian languages.

ahaah.in refers to the first two alphabets and vowels of the Hindi language - ah and aah.

One way we can approach the popularization of Firefox in Hindi is to approach Hindi Magazines to publish in Hindi on the web.

Actually, we need mainstearm involvement like favorite portals, regional ones and services sites people use day to day...like BSNL and Indian Railways...

Yup, NGOs can mean a difference, but actually thier impact will be verymuch limited to ,  geographically.

We implemented a Data center and dissemination project in partnership with an NGO some yrs back, and to be frank, it hadn't increased "tamil" usage in online publication...

So, what i feel we need verymuch is , a localized version of the Portals like rediff and yahoo in Hindi will actually increase the acceptance levels of both the browsers and the portals...

It can also be used in various govt offices...

plus schools...I am sure that most of them will cherish this version..
