Why I made the switch
To be totally honest, I'm not 100% sure myself! :P
I always remember browsing the internet with IE. It was always so slow, and unintuitive; the web seemed to lack something.
I continued using IE for long afterwards, expecting more from the web, but not getting it. Then a friend started talking about Opera. "Oh my friend Adam uses it", he said. "It's great. So much better than IE."
But I never had the desire to get Opera. But I wanted to break free from the humdrum web browsing experience that I was getting from using IE. I wanted a new browser.
Like I said, Opera somehow didn't appeal to me, and I've no idea why. But I did a Google search for "free web browsers", and of course, I got about a million results.
At that time, I didn't know anything about switching browsers. I thought it had something to do with messing around with my internet (;P) but hey, I thought, grab a free browser, and see what happens ;)
The first result I saw was for a browser called "Firefox". It looked good, and since I knew nothing of web browsers at the time, I grabbed it. To my surprise, I found that my internet didn't have to be confugured at all; I was free....from IE!
Since I started using Firefox, the web has come alive. Everything, with the help of the various add-ons, seems to work just how I want it; I can get videos from YouTube, I can block annoying adverts; but most of all - Firefox has helped me immensely with my venture into HTML (I have an experimental website) (IE Tab has proved indispensible!).
Since then, I've never gone back to anything else. I've also told a few friends about Firefox, who also like it ;)
What a good decision it was to switch, even though I'm not entirely sure why I did!
