Problem with Firefox 2.0.0.1

I am using Firefox 2.0

About a month ago, I had a pop-up alerting me that I should download Firefox update 2.0.0.1.  I did so.  I found that it messed up my bookmarks.  I could no longer open all the Bookmark folders.

The next two times I got the pop up, I tried it again with the same results.  Now, I DO NOT WANT  version 2.0.0.1 .   Last week, it downloaded AUTOMATICALLY without my permission.  I had to do a "system restore" to a previous day.    This afternoon, it downloaded automatically AGAIN.   I do not want version 2.0.0.1 because I want to use my Bookmark folders.

How do I STOP getting the automatic update?  How do I stop getting the pop up window telling me I need the update.   %$+*^ the update.

HELP  !   !  !

It appearing to losing your Bookmarks is a common problem.
They're not lost or gone, they are in a different Profile.
Read the information on how to open your Default Profile on this page.
If you still have problems, please post your technical problem in the mozillaZine Forums.
Don't worry, it'll get fixed and you should keep the 2.0.0.1 version for security purposes.

Thanks, Ken.  But, I followed your suggestions as far as I could, and it didn't work.   I DO NOT WANT  2.0.0.1 no matter what it fixes if it's going to disturb my bookmarks.  PERIOD.   I will delete Firefox from my P.C. before I get stuck going to System restore every other day.   I want help in getting rid of the constant 2.0.0.1 reminder.

You could of course just disable automatic update, if you don't care to solve the real problem. But that's really a Firefox support question and should not be discussed further here in this marketing forum.

Thanks, Jan.

I'm not very computer savvy.  Tell me HOW to disable automatic update.  I am 66 years old, and I can live with 2.0, without updates, for the rest of my life and be happy with it.

Sorry, I'm not gonna tell you how to shoot yourself in the foot. You want automatic updates, believe me. They fix important security issues.

Better try to fix the problem with your bookmarks. Read the lost bookmarks chapter in the knowledge base. Try to export your bookmarks and import them again after the update.

If this doesn't help ask in the Firefox Support Forum at MozillaZine. This is where the support experts are, not here at the marketing site.

Firefox has updates for very important security reasons. You risk compromising your personal data as well as everything on your computer by using older versions. Everything may be going well for users of older versions, but then one day,
POW!, you lose everything.
The fix is very simple and I recommend following Jan's advice.
But, if you must, then here you go.

Follow this path.
While in Firefox go to
Tools > Options > Advanced > Update
and uncheck
Automatically check for updates to:
Firefox
You can uncheck the others as well if you’d like.
It's nice to see that you're willing to still use Firefox after all of this. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks Ken for telling me what I needed to know.   I think Jan was trained in the "one size fits all" marketing school where they think every customer needs exactly the same thing.

You, Ken will go far in life, because you have learned to treat people as individuals.  Complimenting a person on his patience helps, too.
