Untapped Potential Users

I always thought this should have happened a long time ago, but it hasn't.  The Mozilla Addons website has a sports page for themes but it is empty.  Sports fans are known to be tech consumers, meaning they will use new tech if they revelant to sports.  Somebody should make themes for different sport teams.  That will open up a whole new market.  There should be an extension that is sports centric (I guess similar to the joga.com World cup extension).  There is an ESPN Bottom Line extension but is very rudimentary.  Maybe Mozilla Corporation (or any individual) could partner with sports related companies such as Nike, adidas, ESPN, NCAA Licensing, NFL, and other sport bodies to make themes and extensions.  What do you think?

P.S. If I'm posting this in the wrong place, please direct me to the proper place. This is my first post and actually joined just to address this issue.  Thank You!

Yea, that would be great but the legal stuff... I think designers should consult a lawyer first to be safe =D

Now, that they are thinking of Firefox ads on TV, it would be a great time to make new themes for different interests.  We could make a couple football themes for football fans, basketball themes for basketball fans, etc.  This way we will have a selling point (that dosen't seem like the right word! :-) Firefox is free) for the watcher to download Firefox.  The regular people don't really care if Firefox is faster or safer because they don't realize what they are missing.  We can help them understand but they need a little push, an incentive to try Firefox.  Mozilla or somebody really needs to make a specialized theme or extension to lure the other 87% of IE users.

Usually sport teams own their own trademarks and they want to hold them to sell products for fans. So while making the theme, one should be carefull not to violate any trademarks.

If the legal problems can be handled, I think that this is a great idea. Now we just need some people to implement it.

After all, it IS about Firefox Marketing...

When they watch sports, maybe we could post a firefox ad or two in the stadiums, or something. Well, maybe during the commercials...

Yeah, we could post an ad, but to me Firefox is more about usability rather than just trying to propagate it to beat IE.  If we have nothing to offer them (i.e. sports related content), then why should they download Firefox?  I personally would like to do this, however, I am not capable creating themes or extension.  I don't see how Mozilla couldn't do this considering how they partnered with Nike's joga.com by making the World Cup extension.  Sports teams should approve of themes since it helps draw the fans.

I like this idea, especially the extension part.  I think if we build some themes for any professional team, we could advertise that to fans and easily convert them.

yeah, every time I talk about Firefox and themes, my friends always ask me if there is a theme for their favorite team.

Also, if ESPN or some other company promotes it, then it will greatly expose Firefox to people who wouldn't have thought about downloading Firefox.
