SpreadFirefox.com is not a support nor an official Firefox Product
Site. In SpreadFirefox we only discuss how to spread Firefox and news
relating to Firefox.

Firefox support is available at mozilla.com/support and Firefox is available at mozilla.com/firefox.

Newbie users who complain about Firefox's "lack of features" please search through the extensions available at https://addons.mozilla.org/?application=firefox

People looking for an integrated Mail and Chat Client please use Sea Monkey available at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/

People needing help or submitting feature requests (features not available as extensions) please visit

Thank You for your time.

These are really good points. A list like that should be really prominent on the main page. Perhaps in the FAQ: "What Sfx it not about". There is so much off-topic noise in the sfx forums and blogs, it nearly became unuseable.

Considering this site is about 'spreading' Firefox then so called 'Newbie' users are our bread and butter. I don't think we should be putting down new Firefox users and applying that trite geekspeek label of 'Newbie'.

If this place was all about patting current experienced users on the back for using Firefox then you would probably be on the right track. Since it is about encouraging more users to switch to Firefox then maybe these new users shouldn't be belittled.

Also, I have always believed that a browser should be simple and intuitive. Firefox doesn't need a PHD in order to operate. Firefox, like most browsers, is uncomplicated so therefore experience of use does not bring forward superhero powers. The mark of a good browser is to be able to 'use and forget', in the same way as breathing with your lungs.

I am amused that some people need manuals, books and 'Firefox for Dummies' guides to use something that is meant to be instantly utilised. The difference of knowledge level between an experienced user and a 'Newbie' is tiny. Knowing how to use Firefox cannot really be considered a skill.

Also, rules for posting on these pages should be left to the moderators of this forum, and not to any user who takes it upon him/herself to dictate any 'laws' they have personally manufactured.

Whoredom or Boredom

Newbie is not an insulting term. Geek use a different term to insult a person about their newness. These terms are "n00b" "noob" "$7up!d n008" (stupid noob) and my personal term: "n00blet" These are the terms used among geeks to refer to the so-called idiots of the computer world. So in conclusion, newbie is not a bad term.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=newbie

I used newbie in the sense that the user is new to Spread Firefox and NOT to Firefox.

Newbie isn't geekspeek it's slang for something/someone new.

I wasn't belittling anyone, just asking people to refer to this before posting on Spread Firefox.

I have talked with the moderators and they are quite happy with the posting.

These aren't laws just a pieces of Advice

Like you said we are targetting newbies so what's wrong with books and manuals. They will only assist the new users.

The poster is talking about new people to SFX, not firefox. New users here might think posting A and B is right, but they should be informed that it is not. This has nothing to do with experience with the actual browser, just the spreadfirefox site.

The author displayed nothing more than helpful information to people, so why its recieved that response is unknown.  There was now belittling, newbie is a common word and generally inters nothing more than new person, new visitor.  It isnt meant as anything else, so you've misunderstood there and should either take that back, or accept that fact.  You've clearly read far too much into what is meant to be a helpful post.

Countless of New visitors and users are not understanding what SpreadFirefox is for.  All the post does is politley provide some information.  Its somewhat contradictory you talk about belittling and then go on to say:

"I am amused that some people need manuals, books and 'Firefox for
Dummies' guides to use something that is meant to be instantly
utilised."

Well information and support is required for any product.  You've displayed more belittling there than ever, and the original post simply was not belittling.  People are advised where to go for support and information regardless, all this post is do that and more in a simple, to the point, helpful manner, that is great, helpful, and nothing more.  End of topic.
