Start the profile manager. This will tell you how, http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile. Delete your current profile and make a new one. Then, see if installing extensions work.

Tool>Options>Content and uncheck where it says;
“Warn me when web sites try to install extensions or themes”

If an extension is incompatible with 1.5, then there are a lot of ways around it, but I use Mr Tech’s Local Install. Some may be simpler, but this extension will become your best friend.
If you still have problems, try the mozillaZine forums where they specialize in technical help.

It tried it and attemted to download Mr. tech's local install and received the same error message as follows:

software installation is currently disabled...click edit options  to enable it...

I disabled it and it made no difference. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall version 1.5 over and over again and always end up with the same problem. I also tried to go back to Version 1.07 and i can not get that one to work at all anymore?? Any other recomendations?
