Button and Banner Counter

Is it really that hard to create an affiliate Button and/or Banner that includes the Firefox download counter?
Isn't there some advertiser somewhere that's already done this so their code can be looked at to figure out how it was done?
Maybe I'm naive but it doesn't seem like it should be too difficult to do this by all the coding geniuses that hang out here.

Just have a look through the threads in this forum, quite a few variants of a graphical counter have been published.

You can also have a look at this page:

I'm sorry I wasn't clear but why do I have to do that? Why can't I just go to the Buttons and Banners section and get an affiliate ad that includes a counter?

Well, reason for this may be that it is already straining sfx.com to provide the counter-feed at all (the update-rate was already reduced and it was relocated to a dedicated server AFAIK).
To provide an affiliate banner with the download-counter (that would necessarily have to be driven by server-side scripting) would be even more challgenging for the infrastructure (particularly if you consider that one would need many images to suit various tastes...).

So, you are encouraged to get one of the small PHP/Javascript/Flash/... snippets and put it on your own webspace to get the counter going.
This way, only the raw counter-data is read from sfx.com, while the transformation into your preferred representation (image, text, whatever) is done in a decentralized way.

You can always link your affiliate URL to a counter-image, of course.

I appreciate your insight. I did create a text ad using the simple JS with my link, which is probably best for my purpose. It now appears at the bottom of every page on my website, Kentucky Gallery
