Does anyone know anything about the firefox profiles? I was prompted with a box telling me to choose a profile name before being able to open a firefox browser. It wouldnt let me on the "default" profile, so I made a new profile in order to allow me to browse firefox. Well am I able to switch back to the "default" somehow? I lost all of my favorite bookmarks and no information is saved on any website I go to. Please help. Thanks.

sfx.com is the Firefox marketing website and so not primarily concerned with technical issues of the browser itself.
Moreso, this forum is for troubleshooting the Firefox download counter only.

You may want to try forums.mozillazine.org, the people over there are great at helping out with Firefox issues.

It looks for me that Firefox thinks that your "default" profile is in use by another instance of Firefox and therefore prevents you from using it. I have no idea what can cause this and how it can be solved (apart from rebooting to reset open files - which you probably did already).

Hi, there should be locked files within your directory that contains the details of your account.  For linux it is

$HOME/.mozilla/ firefox

The file to delete is called 'lock'.  This is likely similar to Windows implementations.  And the file is probably called lock, I am willing to wager.  So your solution would be just search the system for files called lock, and if they are within the firefox profile directory that you are unable to login to, delete it.

Worked for me on Mandriva Linux 2006 (firefox 1.0.6)
