Flash Download Counter v2.0

Posted by thed on Thu, 04/28/2005 - 16:44Syndicated Download Counter

I've updated the download counter I made a few weeks ago. First of all, the file-size of the first one I made, was about 70k. The new file-size is about 7k. The reason is, I didn't use the bloated xmlConnector component, I just did It the old fasioned way with the xml class.

Another reason you should upgrade, Is because this one looks MUCH better. I'm using the meta-bold font for all of the text, Including the download count.

So, if you'd like to use my counter, You have two options. You can either download this one, which doesn't require you to use php (it calls to my server for the info) and just upload it to your site, or you can download this zip file, extract the files, and upload them to your own server. I reccomend the first one for those who don't know anything about php.

Oh, and this version updates It's self every 10 seconds, instead of every 2 seconds like the original. I don't know how quickly the counter updates, so i just set It to a safe interval. Enjoy. :)

I would like to add my affiate ID to the link if you could use a text file for the link or give the fla so we could edit it that would be awsome. I have tryed to decompile it and end up loosing the counter. or if you had one that didn't link back to firefox that would be fine also

Hi, sergio.
The right side of my brain is pretty much dead. lol I'm more of a programmer than a designer. I'm not good at thinking up design concepts, but if you have a specific Idea, I could probably make It happen In flash.

I LIKED the counter design, but missed some movement ( which will need Flash ACTION SCRIPT), so my suggestion is not related to appearance, but complexity. The way it is, although it is producing internet traffic every 10 seconds, the numbers will take about 60 seconds to change, what is a bit tedious.

Dear friend.

I got a little desapointed with your Flash.

If you are using FLASH technology, FAMOUS FOR CREATING MOVEMENTS, I expected to find something "alive", not a static download "register".

Add some Action Script to it, make some calculations and give it an odometer effect.

I have done something that looks more "alive" WITHOUT using Flash, so, I think that using FLASH, you could do something similar or EVEN BETTER than my counter that you can see at:
