I have been reciving emails from members that cant
not login

I didn't contribute to any of Lifehacker's "Show Us Your Firefox" posts awhile back (you can find them here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4). Before I read those articles, I thought I had already determined what I wanted. I still remember browsing through pages of extensions, trying to determine what I wanted when I took that leap into extending my browser experience, and the only one not listed was Freenigma's - which I now use alongside FireGPG (which I'll get into the "why" in another post).

I use various operating systems for running my business: Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows, and I have found at least 1 Firefox add-on that's specific to each OS. The one that I found that I like for Firefox on a Mac is the 1Password add-on by Agile Web Solutions. The only downside is you have to pay for 1Password, but you can download a trial, and there are deals online that can be found (like this one). It stores passwords, serial numbers, credit card numbers, etc, and it integrates well with Firefox so a user can recall data, create passwords, etc. with a couple key taps or mouse clicks.

There are 2 things that I really like about the add-on, in addition to the capability it provides (I'm not trying to sound like a commercial ... really): 1. a password generator, 2. button and/or toolbar options. The password generator is pretty simple to use; you can create a good password by working 3 sliders that determine length, character/number ratio, and how many symbols. From there you can either copy it to the clipboard or have it automatically fill a password block.

The add-on comes in 2 flavors: 1. button, 2. toolbar. If you want, you can use both. However, I'm anal about screen real estate, so my preference is with the button. Clicking the button gives you a drop-down menu that has all the options available via the toolbar. However, the toolbar gives you direct access to each function that you want to use.

Lastly, there is 1 more option that I like, but seldom use - which is why I didn't say 3 things I like. It's the Identity feature. When there's a new site that I want to try for a while, but I'm not comfortable about putting too much info out there, I have an alias stored in 1Password that I use. When I get to a registration page, I press Command-Option-(corresponding number) and it automatically fills all the information in (name, e-mail, location, etc), and it will store up to 3 different identities.

Anyways, that's my "Mac only" Firefox add-on.

A Gift for the Firefox Community

Just a little something I put together. It's a Firefox desktop theme for Windows. I built it on my XP system, but the elements are in a zipped folder, not an exe, so you can pick and choose what you want to add to your system.

I put together some of the icons and cursors, but most of the cursors and other parts were gleaned from the Web. Hope this is a fun thing to start the New Year with. It can be found at http://stormbringer005.angelfire.com/index.html .

Spread Open Source

Can the idea of community marketing that is the success of Spread Firefox be applied to other open source projects?

I think it can and for this purpose a new website has been created, called SpreadOpenSource.com . Its purpose is to help spread open source solutions like OpenOffice.org, Gimp, Linux, Ubuntu, open formats like ODF and generally promote the use of open source around the world.

The more people use open source solutions the better it is for all open source solutions, someone who tried Firefox is probably more inclined to try OpenOffice than someone who didn't, and vice-versa. Similarly to make the transition to an open source operating system like Ubuntu, it really helps if you are already using programs like Firefox and OpenOffice. And anyone who uses Ubuntu will in turn probably continue to use Firefox and OpenOffice. So I believe they all benefit from each other's success.

SpeadOpenSource.com opened just yesterday.

I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to locate screenshots of what FF looks like before I download it. Maybe having a way for the uninitiated to view what the browser looks like would be a good thing? As it is, I see no reason to even try it yet. I came here thinking I'd give it a try, but since I can't find anything except help on how to fix it, I've been put off pretty strongly.

This is Abhishek from Mumbai,India and this is my first post.I have always been a fan of Firefox,and after watching Mitchell Baker's talk at FOSS.IN 2007 I was inspired...I need no internet exploders,phantom of the operas (pun intended) to browse the web nor do i need to go on a safari for such small tasks..I just need my Firefox to fire up my browsing experience...Its a browser with an edge over every browser around.

My Hands on Approach to Spreading Firefox

I have adopted tactics more frequently associated with totalitarian regimes than benign browsers in my efforts to spread Firefox. I am by turns eloquent, verbally abusive, and brotherly before physically seizing their machines and installing the browser by force (with personas thrown in to dazzle the eye) under the guise of checking for spyware and viruses. Then I set it to the default browser and do my damnedest to hide Internet Explorer. I tell them that their hard drives will crash if they open IE, and that Bill Gates will know they switched, and open the floodgates of spyware.

I have done this on no less than four machines, including that of a reluctant manager, who was physically grappling with me over the mouse, but fell down choking when I gouged her in the throat with a compact disc copy of AOL.

I was was dragged from the local library, screaming "death to internet explorer" and ranting about better browsing for the masses.

It is for the greater good.

Spread Firefox V.2 Dropping Soon!!

We're almost ready to flip the switch, pull the lever, press the shiny big red button!

As you all have been reading here for some time, the new Spread Firefox is an action-oriented, project-based platform. We're transitioning away from a platform dominated by discussion to one that focuses on taking action to spread Firefox.

This means that blogging is going away, to be replaced by projects. Projects are like mini-sites within Spread Firefox that give you the tools to manage specific activities to spread Firefox. Anyone can create one of these projects which come with a discussion forum, a mailing list, a project calendar, a document and image repository, etc.

Those projects that get traction will be featured on the front page of Spread Firefox. Projects that look like they need help getting support can also be featured on the front page.

In addition to Spread Firefox member projects, the Mozilla Marketing team are increasingly running their projects and programs at Spread Firefox. You'll find Mozilla Events, Mozilla Materials and Logos, Stats and Metrics, and more, all running out of Spread Firefox.

You all are encouraged to sign up with projects or programs that interest you and to create projects yourself.

The transition to the new site is going to be happening in a matter of hours. Your bookmarks and the URL http://spreadfirefox.com will take you to the new site. You'll have to re-login but your accounts, including your affiliate points, your private messages, and profiles should all be intact. The old Spread Firefox will be archived at a new URL, probably http://archive.spreadfirefox.com and will, sometime over the next few months be transitioned to a read-only site. We'll post links to the old site as soon as the URLs are updated and we'll keep you updated on the changes to the archive so that you have time to transition any of your documents to the new site or to re-locate your personal blogs.

In addition to the transition to the new platform, we're also going to be introducing you all to a larger team of Spread Firefox leaders, from Mozilla, Glaxstar, and the broader community. I'm still going to be around, but my involvement with the site-wide project will wane and I'll shift my focus to specific projects.

You all are what makes Firefox such a success. You've brought us 130 million Firefox users and helped make Firefox a household name. With Firefox 3 ever-closer at hand, you all will be the ones to take us to 200 million users and beyond. Firefox 3 Beta 2 now available for download

Please note: We do not recommend that anyone other than developers and testers download the Firefox 3 Beta 2 milestone release. It is intended for testing purposes only.

Firefox 3 Beta 2 is now available for download. This is the tenth developer milestone focused on testing the core functionality provided by many new features and changes to the platform scheduled for Firefox 3. Ongoing planning for Firefox 3 can be followed at the Firefox 3 Planning Center, as well as in mozilla.dev.planning and on irc.mozilla.org in #granparadiso.

New features and changes in this milestone that require feedback include:

Improved security features such as: protection from cross-site JSON data leaks, tighter restrictions on site-specific content using effective TLD service, better presentation of website identity and security, malware protection, stricter SSL error pages, anti-virus integration in the download manager, version checking for insecure plugins.
Improved ease of use through: better password management, easier add-on installation, new download manager with resumable downloading, full page zoom, animated tab strip, and better integration with Windows Vista, Mac OS X and Linux.

Operation Firefox: The results are in!

After an overwhelming response and some tough decision-making, the winner of Operation Firefox has been announced! Winner Agent R.W. from Georgia Tech University and team plastered the giant Firefox logo on their school's football stadium for thousands to bask in.

The Firefox logo soared to new heights on runner up Agent Teren's plane.

The Firefox sticker also graced the set of the New York City Opera, as well as a concert bus at an Iowa State tailgate.
