Firefox 3 Beta 1 - 429,000 Downloads
Source: Paula Rooney- ZDNet
The Mozilla Foundation reports that nearly 500,000 copies of Firefox 3 beta 1 have been downloaded since its release last week and two more beta test versions will follow before its final release next year.
During a brief meeting Monday, developers said Firefox 3 Beta 2 will be released by the end of the year and beta 3 will follow in early 2008.
The Firefox team said more than 429,000 copies have been downloaded to date and that roughly 100,000 of those are active beta testers.
The next beta test versions will incorporate the visual user interface redesigns for Windows Vista, Linux and Mac OSX, which gives the browser a more appropriate look-and-feel depending on the operating system used. Users who load beta 1 on Mactinosh are currently invited to test a protoype of the Firefox 3 theme for Mac OSX, dubbed Proto., which is also in beta testing as an add-on to Firefox.

Thunderbird Affiliate URL
I've been promoting Thunderbird along side Firefox for as long as I've been using it. Today I was testing my Thunderbird referral link and it leads to Mozilla.com and not the the Thunderbird page.
As you can imagine, this would confuse people expecting to land on the Thunderbird page and they may even think that I tried to trick them into going to Mozilla.com to get Firefox.
Will someone please look into this issue and Otto can you confirm this with your Tbird link? Does it go to Mozilla.com?
Thanks
Ken

Microsoft Loses in Court
This is a really big victory for consumers and companies.
Source: BBC News
Microsoft has lost its appeal against a record 497m euro (£343m; $690m) fine imposed by the European Commission in a long-running competition dispute.
The European Court of First Instance upheld the ruling that Microsoft had abused its dominant market position.
A probe concluded in 2004 that Microsoft was guilty of freezing out rivals in server software and products such as media players.
Microsoft has two months to appeal at the European Court of Justice.
"The Court of First Instance essentially upholds the Commission's decision finding that Microsoft abused its dominant position," the court's statement said.
Microsoft's top lawyer said it was important now for the company to comply with EU competition law, but that it had not yet decided on its next legal steps.

Open Komodo Project Announced
Source: InfowWorld.com
ActiveState Software Inc., a leading provider of professional development tools, announced the creation of the Open Komodo Project, a new initiative to create an open source platform that promotes open standards. The Open Komodo Project will fill a need for developer tools in the open web technology stack, furthering web innovation and freedom of choice for developers and end-users.
With the creation of the Open Komodo Project, ActiveState is joining advocates like Mozilla in promoting the open web. The open web philosophy aims to maintain the integrity of the web as a public space that is platform, language, and browser neutral. Open web standards advocate user freedom and choice, encourage decentralization and community, and ensure the viability of nonproprietary web technologies.
Open Komodo aims to create a framework for client-side web development integrated with Firefox®, Mozilla’s free, open source web browser, and based on the award-winning Komodo® IDE, a multiplatform, multi-language IDE for dynamic languages and Ajax technologies. As a first step in the Open Komodo project, ActiveState is open sourcing the browser-side capabilities of Komodo® Edit, a free multi-language editor for dynamic languages based on Komodo® IDE.
“ActiveState has long lived by a philosophy of developer choice. We focus on dynamic languages, but give developers the freedom to choose what tools they use in their development process,” said Shane Caraveo, Komodo Lead at ActiveState. “The open web philosophy is an extension of our involvement in the open source community as supporters and contributors. As strong advocates for the open web initiative, it’s essential for us to enable developers to contribute to the open web.”
“The Open Komodo project is an exciting alternative for web developers seeking an open source development environment,” said Mike Shaver, Chief Evangelist at Mozilla. “At Mozilla, we believe that open standards encourage innovation and help ensure the continued health of the Internet. We’re pleased that ActiveState is actively supporting the open web.”

BloodFire- Firefox Theme
Here's a brand new dark Firefox theme created by John Jessel a.k.a. Cato62.
I'm posting this on SFx because SpreadFirefox.com is all about being a part of a team that supports each other and that has common goals. John is now a productive and contributing member to Mozilla.
This and Blood Thunderbird are his very first themes so help out a brother and at least try them. Of course if you don't dig dark than that's cool.
The developer is just like others who loves Firefox and he wanted to be more a part of it so these are his contributions to Firefox and Thunderbird fans and users.
Download BloodFire for Firefox from my gallery on deviantART.com

I created a 1600x1200 preview of BloodFire that you can view in full on the download page.
